In the final stages of the recovery of the Cathedral - of Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque styles - and with a view to its reopening, the urbanisation of its surroundings and the museumisation of some of its parts were fundamental for the monument to once again become part of the popular consciousness and heritage of the city.

The square reinterprets the baroque staircase as a historic urban axis, and humanises the cathedral's surroundings with trees, benches and urbanisation elements. The remains of ancient Roman mosaics, visible from an exterior skylight, are also protected under the upper level.
